Sensory Processing ~ Making Connections
Autism Environments
From A Sensory Perspective
This two–day course starts with instructor Laura Barker presenting the late Bonnie Hanschu's  brain–oriented
explanation of the behavioral issues associated with autism, ADHD and related conditions. She goes on to
demonstrate why sensory needs are a primary priority for children and adults who have autism  In the second day
she covers simple and safe strategies that can be applied by anyone in any setting to improve performance,
participation and interaction.  Creating a sensory flow of the day, environmental modifications and enriched
sensory diets are emphasized.  The substantially upgraded course manual contains the most complete and
comprehensive information available on the Ready Approach and includes an extensive bibliography with many
annotated citations.
Objectives:

Those who complete this course earn 13 contact
hours and will be able to:

  • Relate the symptoms and behavioral
characteristics of autism to specific brain
differences that have been established as
    common to the condition.

  • Explain how deficits in sensory processing
account for what many experts consider to be
the core cognitive issue in autism.

  • Modify environments to significantly reduce
stress and promote adaptive behavior as a
    generalized and sustained outcome.

  • Use maximally powerful, but simple and safe
    brain-oriented sensations to achieve more
adaptive responses in any context where
    behavior becomes an issue.

  • Apply brain-oriented principles to improve the
lives of anyone affected by compromised
    sensory processing including care providers.
